It would be cool if Discord had a public client API so I could read through just a list of new posts in subscribed channels.
Huh. It would be cool if Discord was basically web forums with RSS. “Look at what they took from us etc.”
I volunteered to do some copyediting of the web page for my kid’s school, and naturally the best way to do that was to spend a couple of hours learning how to use {rvest} and writing a short script to scrape the site into a set of Quarto files. I’m right on track to get started with the copyediting in early 2025, give or take.
I’ve been hosting my little set of domains with Pair.com for nearly ten years (!), through a handful of small price increases; eight bucks a month to put my random junk online has always been fine. Now Pair is increasing my shared hosting plan to $14, nearly doubling it! Hmm.
I really like all the stuff on Robb Knight’s website, and The Web is Fantastic is a super example of why. In this slow span of days before New Year’s I love having a list of inspiring Things To Do On the Web.
I’ve decided to experiment with two new tools for a little while: Aboard for bookmarking and filing interesting things (and I’m always interested in things that Paul Ford gets excited about); and Omnivore as a new read-later platform. Something about a new clean slate in each of those categories is really appealing, so I’ll see how it goes.
Continuing my weekend of exploring my own web stuff, I’m digging into my logs for the first time in a while, and finding GoAccess to be a really nice, lightweight, and useful tool.
All right, inspired by y’all, I got myself one of those omg.lol pages. But I don’t know what to do with it, so am taking suggestions!
